Come-this is the way

Barbara Streisand is playing on the radio and the song reminds me of an old boyfriend when I was sixteen.

Seems a lifetime ago.

The air conditioning allows the room to be crisp and cold-I’m so grateful for a grey patterned fleece blanket, to wrap around my tired body.

The wall clock tells me it’s 5 minutes to midnight and that’s a total of 17 hours of waiting for the inevitable.

Squeezing my eyes to stay awake-as if to stand guard!

His breathing is laboured and rasping, his eyes not quite shut.

So very yellow… so very sad.

A few well loved friends stopped by previously to share something special and to say,

“See you later.”

I wonder if he can hear them?

I think he can…

I promised, I would stay with him until he breathes his last breath and that I will.

Not long now.
